The music on "Chadwell's Station" features the fiddle tunes played on the Eastern Frontier before 1840. It includes tunes from the Hamblen Collection - David R Hamblen born in 1809 in Cumberland Gap, VA - as well as tunes in archaic styles from Hiram Stamper and Marcus Martin, plus two from the Virginia Reels - another collection of fiddle tunes published in 1839. Many are played on period gut strung fiddles, accompanied by Whitt Mead on an early Dobson banjo with skin head and gut strings. These are the uncommon tunes played in the vernacular styles of the common folks out in the hinterlands.
